Located 280 kilometres southwest of Perth, Margaret River is filled with culinary surprises and is surrounded by stunning nature. It is the only wine region in Australia where you can visit award-winning wineries, picturesque beaches, tall eucalypt forests, impressive caves and surf world-class waves, all in one day. An ideal destination to soak up the laid-back Australian lifestyle

Be enchanted by the depths of Jewel Cave which has the longest accessible stalactites or discover some of the tallest eucalyptus trees in the world. Chardonnay

With a perfect grape-growing climate and highly skilled winemakers, Margaret River is home to some of the world’s most beautiful varieties of Chardonnay. Go on a wine tour with a local guide and taste the region's finest drops, while soaking up the magical scenery. Visit Leeuwin and sample some crisp and slightly oaky Chardonnay, paired with venison and other local side dishes. In 2020, one of the top-rated wines came from Leeuwin!

Cabernet Sauvignon

Surrounding areas

The northern part of the Margaret River region is home to many picturesque coastal towns, including Yallingup and Busselton. The latter is situated on the quiet Geographe Bay. Visit the iconic Busselton Jetty and explore the numerous cycle paths that take you along the coast (feel free to take a dip along the way).

From world-class surf breaks to an abundance of wildflowers

In Yallingup, it is a surfing country, and it is even said that it is the place where surfing began in the mid-1950s. Every year there are many surfing competitions held here, which you can watch from the quay. Besides surfers, you can spot dolphins and maybe even whales. Take a walk along the rugged coastline on the Cape to Cape Track, where all kinds of wildflowers grow, and you may see some of these water giants.

Augusta

Approximately 330 kilometres south of Perth is a charming fishing and ex-whaling town. Augusta is one of Western Australia’s best-kept hidden coastal secrets with plenty to do and see. Go on a whale-watching tour, explore underground caves and visit the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia. Sample local wines, eat fish and chips or go for a swim at Flinder's Bay.

Busselton

Approximately 220 kilometres west of Perth, on the tip of the southern coastline, is Busselton. Nearby, Margaret River and Dunsborough, this region is renowned for its whale watching opportunities. Between May and December, tens of thousands of whales make their journey past this vibrant place on their annual migration.

Take a ride on the longest timber piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere

Operated by a non-profit community organisation, the Busselton Jetty is 1.841 kilometres long. Heritage-listed, it is the longest timber piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. The jetty's construction commenced in 1864, and today is one of the region's biggest tourist attractions.

Dunsborough

Explore Dunsborough, a coastal town located in the southwest, approximately 254 kilometres south of Perth on the shores of Geographe Bay. An award-winning tourist destination, this town is also popular amongst the locals. Spend your days here going beach hopping, visiting the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, or sampling local wine at the wineries.
